Professor Mary Coleman joined the Carson-Newman faculty in 2015. She also directs C-N’s summer RN camp for regional high school students interested in pursuing nursing as a career. After graduating with a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Carson-Newman, Professor Coleman earned a master of science in nursing degree from Duke University, where she focused her coursework in nursing education. Her clinical specialty is pediatric nursing.
Prior to entering academia, she worked as a pediatric critical care nurse at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During her time at Brenner’s, Professor Coleman was the site coordinator for Virtual PICU System, an international program dedicated to quality and safety initiatives. Professor Coleman is an active member in the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau, Rho-Mu at large chapter. She recently collaborated on a clinical investigation of the relationship between pediatric intensive care unit admission times and mortality rates.
